Talk the talk, grow the brain

Narrating your day helps your child in powerful ways. When you talk out loud about everyday moments, you are building your child’s vocabulary by surrounding them with real, meaningful language. This daily exposure supports brain development boosting memory, attention, and problem solving skills. It strengthens your bond, helping your child feel loved, safe, and understood. Strong early language skills lays the foundation for reading, learning, and success in school.

Sing, read, & play with words

Language isn’t just about talking, it can be built through singing, reading, and playing. These things make language stick and make learning joyful!

NARRATE THE DAY

-DESCRIBE WHAT YOU’RE DOING:

“I’M MAKING YOU BREAKFAST: FIRST I CRACK THE EGG, NOW IT IS COOKING”

-NAME OBJECTS & ACTIONS:

“THIS IS YOUR BLUE SOCK. BLUE SOCK ON YOUR FOOT.”

-USE REPETITION:

REPEATING KEY WORDS HELPS SOLIDIFY THEM “WE’RE GOING OUTSIDE. OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE!

-PAUSE & WAIT:

GIVE TIME FOR YOUR CHILD TO RESPOND WITH SOUNDS, GESTURES, OR WORDS.

-USE DIFFERENT SENTENCE TYPES

MAKE STATEMENTS, QUESTIONS, AND EXCLAMATIONS TO KEEP YOUR CHILD ENGAGED “ IT’S A BIRD./ DO YOU SEE THE BIRD?/ THE BIRD IS FLYING!

-CELEBRATE ANY COMMUNICATION

WHETHER IT’S A BABBLE, POINT, WORD, OR SOUND- RESPOND LIKE IT’S A CONVERSATION. CHILD: “BA!” YOU: “BALL? YES! YOU WANT THE BALL?”

-Every word you say helps their world grow! Keep it simple, fun, and full of love!
